Color is an integral element for each one of us, woven into virtually every facet of our lives. We choose the colors of each clothes, the color of our car, the colors of the walls in our rooms, furniture and furnishings in our homes. And each one of these colors has a great psychological and physiological effect on our daily lives, an impact that may be invisible or imperceptible but actually ‘colors’ our lives more deeply than we ever realize!
Color therapy is the therapeutic use of various forms of color for physical, emotional and spiritual benefit to the human body. It was probably the type of therapy used by man because it was nature’s own method and a natural way of keeping the body in balance and in rhythm.
For centuries, the healing profession has recognized that color is a force of immeasurable and infinite power, exerting a tremendous psychological influence on people. Healing by color can be traced back to ancient Egypt, China and India. Pythagoras, the Greek mathematician and philosopher, used color for healing some 2,500 years ago. In ancient Egypt, anf Greece, color temples were built with seven compartments, each containing one of the seven colors of the Rainbow. People were bought to the temples and put into specific compartments, depending on their need, for physical healing and spiritual uplifting. In a research on patients in mental hospitals, it was found that the depressive patients were kept into rooms with red or bright yellow walls and lights, and hyperactive patients into room with blue or green walls and lights, both were calmed by the respective colors.
The healing properties of certain basic natural colors are used to treat imbalances of the tridoshas, which are the forces that govern all the functions of the body, mind and consciousness.
The therapy is based on the fact that the entire human body is a mass of colors. Visible body parts have different colors from the internal organs. Even the cells in the body have a color of their own. When a part of the body gets sick, the chemical as well as the color balance is affected. Color therapy restores this by supplying the frequency needed by the cells through various colors.
Seven colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet are the basis of the therapy. Each color vibrates its own individual frequency and corresponds to one of the seven chakras (energy centers in the body), which in turn can influence specific gland, organ or tissue of the body.
Red corresponds to the root or base chakra, it can be used for problems with the adrenal glands, kidneys and bladder. It is a symbol of heat and fire. It simulates and excites the nerves, the sensory faculties, circulation of the blood, builds hemoglobin and revitalizes the body. Used as a general tonic, this is the most satisfactory color. It may be used to treat chronic rheumatism, low blood pressure, anemia, blood ailments, bronchitis and common cold.

Yellow is used for stimulating the brain, liver, spleen, intestines, the alimentary tract and the lymphatic system. It is effective for curing of melancholia, paralysis, kidney diseases, diabetes, rheumatism, indigestion, flatulence and eczema.
